VHP’s Chakka Jam was symbolic, successful in Gujarat

Road traffic at major squares of cities across Gujarat was hit for half an hour to one hour on Wednesday morning as activists of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) helped by BJP workers blocked roads to protest the cancellation of land transfer to the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB).

In Ahmedabad, VHP activists began their protest at about 9 a.m. at Income tax circle under leadership of Dilipbhai Trivedi. Police detained around 25 activists after allowing symbolic protest for some minutes. VHP activists under leadership of Kaushikbhai Mehta blocked Paldi square. Police allowed protesters for 45 minute jam and then detained workers who were later released. Jam at Paldi had a little halt when an ambulance was allowed to pass. BJP MLA Rakesh Shah and Ex-Mayor of Ahmedabad Amit Shah were present here. However they did not actively participate in the agitation, they stood at some distance from the event and from the news channel cameras. In east Ahmedabad’s Raipur area, BJP corporators Bhushan Bhatt and Mayur Dave actively participated and blocked the main road that connects State transport terminus and Railway station for 45 minutes. In Bapunagar, road block lasted for few minutes only.

Talking to DeshGujarat, BJP’s one of the leaders present at ‘chakka jam’ site showed SMS in his mobile phone sent by BJP’s Ahmedabad unit president Jagdish Patel announcing BJP support to VHP’s Chakka-Jam and instructing to participate in VHP’s protests actively with party workers. Road block at Soni ni Chal, CTM, Jashoda chokdi squares seemed just symbolic. BJP workers though participated, were not active enough like they used to be in 90s Ram Janm Bhoomi movement. However BJP MLA from Balvla constituency Mr. Kantibhai Lakum was active in blocking highway near Bavla. He was later detained by police.

VHP activists blocked roads at 20 different places in Vadodara city. They successfully jammed Ahmedabad-Mumbai national highway. Ahmedabad-Mumbai national highway was also blockaded near Bhilad in Valsad district where police arrested at least 4 VHP workers. Activists blocked national highway near Ankleshwar’s Rajpipla chokdi. Surat-Dhuliya highway was also blockaded in south Gujarat. In Surat, police arrested VHP activists protesting at Gujarat Gas circle.

In Kutch, police arrested 11 VHP workers who were blocking Bhuj-Madhapar highway.

In Saurashtra’s rajkot, BJP MP Vallabh Kathiria actively participated in chakka-jam. Chakka-Jam protest also was organized in Jamnagar, Bhavnagar, Surendranagar, Jetpur, Junagadh etc centers.

At most of the sites of protests, commuters supported VHP-BJP workers and cooperated them saying that this was valid protest to show nation wide strength of people against Jehadi separatists of Jammu and Kashmir who do not want to give a small piece of land for even two months fearing that Hindus would settle in Kashmir valley. Jehadis anti-Indians of Shrinagar who earlier kicked out each and every Hindu from the valley built a pressure through three days violent protests and government revoked it’s land transfer decision under their pressure but Jammu’s patriotic people who are agitating for almost 40 days are not given justice. Government has double standard for patriots and anti-nationals. Commuters at Paldi parked their vehicles aside and joined VHP protest. They expressed their support to the people of Jammu who are fighting against weak government that seems visibly sympathetic to separatists and anti-nationals.
