Without any price rice, the commuters of popular Ahmedabad-Mumbai Shatabdi train will experience more comfort during ride.
This include smooth and finish seats with adjustable backrest. LCD screens for entertainment, sockets to charge laptop and mobile and a mini pentry in each coach with hot cases, bottle coolers, deep freezer and water boiler.
From August 15, the Western Railways (WR) is going to run the new German design Linke Holfmann Bush (LHB) coaches on Shatabdi Express with Italian-design Fiat bogies.
The train will be flagged off by class four railway employee at Mumbai Central on the independence day.
The Coaches with aircraft-like look, thanks to its screwless panels, have larger windows to enjoy a panoramic view of green rout of Southern Gujarat during journey.
Large-size racks are capable to carry more luggage. The in-built halogen reading lamps are similar to the ones in aircraft, increasing illumination from 150 lux to 400 lux.
To ensure perfect cooling, the air-conditioners are controlled through micro-processor. Humidity control system is a new feature to ensure comfort in monsoon season. The vestibules and passengers area doors also have automatic door-closing mechanism.
Floor boards of these coaches are fire-resistant and also provide sound insulation to make coaches almost sound-proof and less noisy even at higher speed. Every coach has four easy-to-handle emergency exit windows.
Toilet units will have button-operated flush valves to save water. A unique control-discharge toilet system, will avoid soiling of track at station and populated areas. The remains can be then discharged at the yard.
The new LHB coaches, manufactured at Indian Railway’s Kapurthala based Rail Coach Factory have superior suspension level. Such coaches, capable of running at 160 km/hr are already being used for most of the Rajdhani Express trains int he country. In the new longer coach, the seating capacity increases by 20 per cent with 56 seats in Executive Chair Cars and 78 in AC Chair Cars.
The coach body is corrosion-resistant, and will have longer life than conventional coaches keeping in mind that from Mumbai to Bharuch journey there is a humid climate. New coaches are painted in steel gray color with blue stripes with an anti-graffiti coating to restrict scratches and stains.
The microprocessor-controlled antiskid disc break system ensures safety in case of an accident.
Electronically governed engines will provide a trouble-free power supply. Microprocessor-controlled anti-skid disc brake system will enhance the safely level.
Center buffer couplers are designed in anti-climbing fashion.
The Ahmedabad-Mumbai Shatabdi Express was introduced on May 1, 1994. The train runs six days a week, except on Sundays. It takes seven hours to cover a distance of 491 km. between Ahmedabad and Mumbai with seven stops in between.

The new LHB rake of Mumbai- Ahmedabad Shatabdi Expess was flagged off on 15th Aug, 09 by a senior most Group D employee of Mumbai Central station, Shri Rajpath Singh, Sr Pointsman in presence of Shri Kaushal Kishore, Chief Mechanical Engineer, Shri Rajiv Mishra, Chief Rolling Stock Engineer and Shri Shyam Sunder Gupta, Chief Public Relations Officer, Western Railway alongwith other officers & staff. Sweets were also distribued to the passengers of Mumbai Central-Ahmedabad Shatabdi Express.
