German Christian Mission delegation meet Gujarat Congress leaders

A group of German Christians whose unofficial visit to India is supported by Missio, a Christian Catholic Bishops’ Agency for International Christian Mission Work, on Thursday met Gujarat Congress leaders Shaktisinh Gohil and former MP Madhusudan Mistry.

The four-member team will also visit Orissa where Christian missions were attacked few years back after Hindu saint Lakshmananand a life long activist against Christian conversions was brutally killed.

One of the members of visiting group Mr. Pascal Kober said that they got reports from people about how Christian conversion activity was becoming difficult under the new religious freedom law implied by Gujarat government where baptising ceremonies(in which a person converts to Christianity leaving his previous religion) were getting reported.

Missio, a Christian organization supporting Christian group’s visit is known for giving patronage to Christian organizations. According to the Home Ministry report of year 2007, this organization pumped in $12,900,000 to India from Germany.

Jan Bittner, foreign policy advisor to chairman of Christian Democratic Union parliamentary group, Ute Granold, MP of Christian Democratic Union, and Otmar Ochring, director, human rights, Missio(Catholic Christian organization) were also part of the delegation.
