Gujarat HC rejects Sanjiv Bhatt’s plea seeking relief in 1990 Jamjodhpur murder case

The Gujarat High Court today rejected controversial suspended IPS Sanjiv Bhatt’s petition seeking relief in a two-decade-old criminal case of murder against him.
Justice RH Shukla stayed the procedure of framing charge against Bhatt in this case till November 8, for him to challenge it in higher court.
In 1990, when Bhatt was posted in Jamjodhpur as DySP, a person died allegedly due to police brutality during a communal flare-up in. A local court initiated criminal proceedings against Sanjiv Bhatt and six others in this regard.
Earlier, state had filed petition in high court seeking revision of lower court’s order, but recently the revision petition was withdrawn.
