I.K. Jadeja appears before Justice Nanavati Commission

Ahmedabad, 8 November, 2011

Former Gujarat minister I K Jadeja today appeared before Nanavati Commission probing the 2002 communal riots. Jadeja was questioned in-camera by the two-member commission of Justice (retd) G T Nanavati and Justice (retd) Akshay Mehta.

Jadeja was minister in the Modi government in charge of Urban Development during 2002 riots. Jadeja was allegedly present in state control room during 2002 violence.

Jadeja presently enjoys status of Cabinet minister as Executive Chairman of Swarnim Gujarat Panel.

Jadeja is the second former minister of the then Narendra Modi-led BJP government to be questioned as a witness by the commission.

The commission had last year questioned the then minister of state for home Gordhan Zadafia with regard to the Godhra train burning incident killing over 50 Hindu pilgrims and communal riots that followed, where around 1,000 persons were killed. Zadafia has now parted ways with the BJP and has floated his own party Mahagujarat Janta Party.
