Essar Power has commissioned the second unit of 255 mw at its Vadinar power project (phase 2) in Gujarat, taking the company’s total installed capacity to 3,310 mw, the company said in a statement on Monday.
Essar Power, which is a subsidiary of London Stock Exchange-listed Essar Energy plc, said that it has added 1,710 mw of generation capacity in the last one year.
The imported coal fired Vadinar power project (phase 2) has a total installed capacity of 510 mw. The electricity generated from the unit would primarily be supplied to Essar Oil’s nearby Vadinar oil refinery, which has a capacity of 20 million tonnes per annum/405,000 barrels per day.
“The commissioning of the second unit at Vadinar P2 is an important step forward for our power business and also for the refinery given the positive impact this will have on margins,” Naresh Nayyar, chief executive, Essar Energy, was quoted as saying in the statement.
Essar Power’s installed generation capacity of 3,310 mw includes 2,110 mw of captive capacity for Essar’s refinery and steel plants.
