Narendra Modi’s speech at 4th convocation of Gujarat National Law University (Video)

Speaking at the 4th Convocation of Gujarat National Law University (GNLU), he said that the directive principles of the Constitution of India clearly defined human rights and responsibilities. Everyone has a right to justice and to ensure that justice is not delayed.

Mr. Justice Kabir said that scientific and technological development in the world has resulted in qualitative improvement in the field of legal education too, in modern times. The law faculty has opened up a lot of career opportunities in the profession. Law and justice is no ordinary subject. The sky is the limit for research and improvement for legal professionals and experts. He said that law and justice are closely linked to humanity and compassion. The legal professionals have to be committed to human values. He said that legal profession demanded credibility.

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, who was the chief guest of the function, congratulated the pass-outs and particularly the medal winners for successfully clearing one more watershed in life. He urged them to provide fast and timely justice to the poor and common man.

Mr. Modi further said that GNLU, established in 2003, had created a niche for itself in the field of legal education in less than a decade and he complimented the flag bearers of this institution profusely for their remarkable achievement. He believed it had become a mini India with students from all parts of the country pursuing their studies here and then becoming ambassadors of Gujarat’s progress.

Mr. Modi remembered the cooperation and support of the Supreme Court in GNLU’s endeavor. He spoke highly of legal luminaries who’d made India’s judicial system one of the best. He said that money should not be the only goal in life. It should be combined with an urge to serve society and the nation. Scriptures also talk about the importance of teaching and education in molding human values in young minds.

Prominent among those present on the occasion included Supreme Court judge Justice Anil R. Dave, Chief Justice of Mumbai High Court Justice Mohit Shah, Chief Justice of Jharkhand Justice Prakash Tatiya, Gujarat’s Law Minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasma and Minister of State Pradipsinhji Jadeja, legal experts and members of the Bar Council and family members of the students.

While degrees were presented to 156 graduates and postgraduate and seven diploma holders, gold medals were presented to three toppers in postgraduate and golden medals to 17 toppers in various undergraduate courses.

GNLU Director Bimal Patel, in his welcome address, presented the salient features of developments in the outgoing year and future plans to keep pace with global standards in the field of legal education.
