News in brief from across Gujarat


Ahmedabad, 24 June, 2014

-Speaking to media persons at Karai police academy today morning, Chief Minister Anandiben Patel announced that women will be given 25% reservation in new recruitment of Gujarat Police.

-Students who want to get admission in engineering, science, pharmacy courses are in dilemma over state government’s indecisiveness over selecting the procedure of admission. Students and parents wish that the state government honor the Gujarat High Court order and start admission process according to the High Court verdict. However the state government has taken a decision to challenge the High Court decision in Supreme Court. Any delay in admission process will harm career of thousands of students.

-A group of students today blocked main road in Sayajiganj area of Vadodara near DairyDen circle. They were protesting against 49% fee hike in all faculty in MS University.

-Gujarat government has released 200 cusec water in Kharicut canal for paddy crop in rural Ahmdabad, Daskroi, Kheda belt.

-A group of Congress party workers today held ‘pol khol’ programme in presence of media at Nyari-2 dam. They claimed that Rajkot Municipal Corporation lifts gutter and chemical mixed water from Nyari-2 dam to supply drinking water to city. On the other hand Rajkot Municipal Corporation believes that Nyari-2 water is lifted for Rajkot for years and it is filtered in RMC’s plant.

-12 TV sets(one for each of 12 barracks) are gifted to Palara jail in Bhuj for prisoners. Also gifted is one welding machine for training purpose.

-Former Minister Jaynarayan Vyas was seen visiting Anandiben Patel in capital Gandhinagar today. It is believed that Vyas seeks some post in government and that was the purpose of the visit.

-Gujarat BJP incharge Om Mathur and General Secretary Bhikhubhai Dalsania are likely to visit poll-bound Junagadh city on 27th of this month.

-Locals of Rajput village near Mehsana blocked the highway for sometime protesting against attack of butchers on protectors of cows.

-Gujarat will witness biggest election season after Lok Sabha general elections in October 2015 when elections for 24 districts, 209 Talukas, 53 Municipalities and Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation will be held. The elections are to be held as per census 2011. The state election commission has therefore asked district election officers to start procedure of new delimitation. There’s no clarity on new seven districts and 27 new talukas so far.
