Surat Municipal Corporation(SMC) has planned a Plastic Waste Management Center on public private partnership model. SMC has sought offers from various agencies on execution of this innovative idea which if materializes will become the first such project in India.
Due to increased use of plastic, the SMC gets lakhs of tonne of plastic waste during its routine waste collection drive.
Proposed plastic waste management center will be set up in partnership of a private agency which will treat plastic waste and produce oil. The agency will give royalty to SMC, while SMC will pay specific amount to agency for procedure.
Final decision on this project will be taken on Friday in SMC’s standing committee meeting.
