Gujarat HC orders probe and action against Dudhsagar Dairy

Two Public interest litigation (PIL) No. 302/2013 & 165/2014 were filed in Gujarat High Court by milk producers onthe issues of financial irregularities and corruption in Mehsana Milk Producers union popularly known as Dudhsagar Dairy. In these petitions, allegations were raised against Mehsana Milk Unions’s Chairman Sh. Vipulbhai Chaudhary alongwith Board members and officers for corruption, financial irregularities, fodder and Sugar purchase and sale for Rs. 1318 Crores and Rs. 984 Crores respectively. The Division Bench of Gujarat High Court vide order dated 28-11-2013 directed the Gujarat Government to decide the representations of the petitioners and submit report to the High Court.

Then after final hearing of these petitions, The Division Bench of Gujarat High Court vide order dated 26-9-2014 directed that, as and when any irregularities found in Cooperative Society, various authorities are empowered to take suitable course of action under Gujarat Cooperative Societies Act. In these cases, concerned authority have issued notices to Chairman, Mehsana Union, Board members and officers for various allegations and irregularities and started proceedings under various sections of the Gujarat Cooperative Societies Act. The competent officer has also filed affidavit dated 19-9-2014 in Gujarat High Court. Considering the same, Gujarat High Court has directed to take suitable course of action as per provisions of law. Accordingly, Gujarat Government is directed to take legal course of action against Chairman, Board members and officers of Mehsana union for allegations of corruption, financial irregularities etc as per order of the Gujarat High Court.
