Varesh Sinha appointed State Election Commissioner of Gujarat

In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (1) of Article-243 K of the Constitution of India, the Governor of Gujarat today appointed Dr. Varesh Sinha, IAS(Retired) as the State Election Commissioner for the State of Gujarat, with effect from the forenoon of the 26th November, 2014, or with effect from the date he assumes the charge of that office, whichever is later.
This was communicated by K.Srinivas, Principal Secretary to Government of Gujarat(Personnel).
Shri Sinha retired last month from the post of Chief Secretary of Gujarat. At present Mahesh Joshi is incharge State Election Commissioner of Gujarat.
State Election Commission is responsible for local body and panchayat elections. Gujarat is going to witness a big season of Municipal Corporation and panchayat elections in last quarter of year 2015.
