SMC Commissioner Milind Torvane said, SMC will start new four to five applications for public use soon. He said the city has already started a dashboard which showcases important parameters of city managements.

Torvane said technology is very useful in city management. He gave an example. He said recently the SMC had invited forms for 11,000 units of affordable housing. The SMC received 7,000 forms. The next task was to invite each of them to draw event. Conventionally SMC would dispatch letters to them, but it was a time consuming task. So, SMS took decision to inform each applicant through voice message on his/her mobile phone. A system was developed to shoot telephone call to each applicant and deliver a recorded voice message of invitation to draw. Suppose if someone couldn’t receive the call, the system was design in a way that he/she would receive call again from SMC with recorded message. With this application saved time and manual efforts. The entire task was completed without any complain.

Torvane said the SMC is already using some applications regarding RTI, tax payment, birth-death registration, complaints etc. A new bunch of application will further serve citizens through technology.
