In reply to a question asked by Gujarat MP Dilip Pandya on broad gauge rail-track between Ahmedabad and Udaipur via Himmatnagar, Minister of State for Railway Manoj Sinha in Rajya Sabha said, “Gauge conversion of Ahmedabad-Himmatnagar-Udaipur (299 km) along with Modasa-Shamlaji (23 km) new line has been taken up at an anticipated cost of Rs. 1215 crore and an expenditure of Rs. 343 crore has been incurred upto March, 2014, with an outlay of Rs. 40 crore for the year 2014-15.”

MoS Sinha further said, “In view of huge throwforward of ongoing projects, execution of this project has been taken up in phases.”

He added, “on Himmatnagar-Udaipur section, earthwork, bridge work, blanketing, etc. have been taken up while on Ahmedabad-Himmatanagar section, tender for building for Signalling equipment has been award.”

It should be mentioned that Ahmedabad – Udaipur via Himmatnagar broad gauge may make a short distance direct rail service between Ahmedabad and Delhi possible.
