Gujarat govt to send 25,000 food packets to Nepal

Gujarat government in cooperation with citizens and voluntary organizations will send 25,000 food packets to Nepal earthquake sufferers in coordination with National Disaster Management Authority(NDMA).

This decision was taken in a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Anandiben Patel in Gandhinagar today. The meeting was held to discuss possible ways to help earthquake affected people of Nepal and India.

A decision was taken in this meeting that all possible help to people of Nepal will be extended under the guidance of central government.

Chief Minister directed Relief Commissioner and Gujarat State Disaster Management Authority(GSDMA) officials to prepare dry food packets, glucose, dry sugar etc and send such relief material quickly to Resident Commissioner at Gujarat Bhavan in Delhi by road and by-air.

The meeting also discussed possible ways of help to earthquake affected states like Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.

Chief Minister said that based on Gujarat government’s experience to deal with massive earthquake in year 2001, the state is ready to send medical aid teams and structural engineer teams.

The meeting took note of the fact that 6 teams of Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Services are ready to join rescue and relief work in Nepal if needed. They will join the task in Nepal as per instructions of central government’s Disaster Management Authority.
