39 Maggi samples sent for lab testing in Gujarat by state govt

Ahmedabad

Gujarat Food and Drug Control Administration today collected 39 samples of Maggi noodles and sent them for laboratory testing.

“We today collected 39 samples of Maggi from across the state including Ahhmedabad, Vadodara, Surat and Rajkot and sent them for laboratory testing,” Commissioner of Food and Drug Control, H G Koshia told PTI.

“We are expecting the results by the end of this week and after that we will decide further course of action,” he said.

The tests will be conducted to find out whether the ingredients in it are the same as the ones disclosed on the packages, and whether it is safe to consume.

A fine can be imposed if it is found that ingredients have been disclosed incorrectly or differ from what is mentioned on the package. But a criminal case can be registered if the instant noodle is found to be unsafe for consumption, he said.

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has also tested Maggi samples collected from different states in the wake of Uttar Pradesh Food Safety and Drug Administration (FSDA) finding monosodium glutamate and lead in excess of the prescribed limits in the popular snack.
