‘3 reservoirs to be connected to Narmada water grid in August under SAUNI’

Water Resources Minister of Gujarat Babubhai Bokhiria today said, three reservoirs in Saurashtra region will be linked to Narmada water grid under ambitious SAUNI pipeline project in the month of August itself.

SAUNI project, launched by then Chief Minister Narendra Modi aims to connect 115 reservoirs across Saurashtra through pipeline.

Bokhiria said, “SAUNI project will be in 1150 km length. Works as per the first phase tenders are going on. If you pay visit to northern side of Rajkot, you would see lot of movement of trucks carrying pipes that are 12 meters in length(40 ft) and having 3 meter diameter. Any four-wheel vehicle barring truck can pass through this pipeline. And these pipelines are in pair. Laying of pipeline is on. In the month of August, three reservoir Machhu-2, Und-1 and Aaji-3 to be connected and filled with water. Later one by one 115 reservoir will be connected to this grid. Scarcity of water will be given permanent departure from this region.”

Bokhiria was speaking at Jam Khambhalia during the function to dedicate Rs 42 crore 150-bed government hospital.
