According to the Directorate of Animal Husbandry, Government of Gujarat, the state government will make arrangements for medical treatment to injured birds during the festival of Uttarayan across the state through govt machinery and network.
Large number of birds suffer injuries due to lethal kite string on and before 14-15 January Uttarayan festival which is also known as kite flying festival.
A statement issued by directorate adds that services of bird lover voluntary organizations and forest department will be taken for urgent treatment of injured brids during this festival.
It should be mentioned here that during the morning and evening time, birds travel to/from their nests. Relevant authorities have banned kite flying during these hours. However such notifications evoke little response from kite flyers.
