Tourism Council of Bhutan organizes ‘maiden road show’ in Gujarat

The Tourism Council of Bhutan organized a road show here this evening to attract Gujarati tourists to the country.
Talking to media on the occasion of the maiden road show Mr. Tashi Tenzin, Head of the services division of the council, said, ‘ India continues to be its number one source market. With the latest Regional arrivals touching 1,09,052 demonstrating an impressive growth of 57% percent over last year, India remains as the biggest market for both regional and overall arrivals. As part of its India agenda,Tourism Council of Bhutan has focused on Gujarat as one of the key source markets to enhance it’s Indian footprint in the year 2016.
He further said that the road show targeted at key travel agents in Ahmedabad, the commercial capital of Gujarat, is the first of many initiatives to tap the Gujarat market. ‘We are taking many new initiatives to attract tourists. The adventure tourism is also being promoted to attract younger lot,’ he said.
He said that Bhutan, whose around 25 % of the GDP comes from tourism sector, is regarded as one of the most exclusive travel destinations in the world. It enjoys a reputation for authenticity, remoteness and a well-protected cultural heritage and natural environment. Bhutan is one of the last remaining biodiversity hotspots in the world;
forest cover has now increased to over 72% of the country, with over 50% of the country
under protection.
Mr. Tenzin said that unlike visitors from other countries, Indian visitors don’t require visa to visit Bhutan. The Tourism Council of Bhutan will soon launch an online permit system for the Indian traveler, wherein if they come through a Bhutanese tour operator or hoteliers, they can process the permits online in advance. This process will make travel convenient and easier. A recent introduction of the Helicopter services will enable the visitor to a panoramic tour of the vibrant Bhutan natural and verdant landscape.
