Gujarat govt scraps semester system in std 9 to 12

Gujarat government today announced its decision to scrap the semester system in standard 9, 10, 11 and 12 in Gujarat board schools.
The decision was announced by Education minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama.
He said std 10th and 12th anual exams will be conducted by Gujarat Board while std 11 and 12th first semester exams will be taken by schools on their own.
The minister further said, at present in std 11 and 12 Science stream there’s CBSC style syllabus. In physics and maths there’s negligible difference while in chemistry there’s 5% difference and in biology there’s 20% difference. To make sure that students appearing in NEET 2017 don’t face any problem, the syllabus will be made ready and supplementary books will be provided to students. Such supplementary material has been prepared by education department by roping in 15 experts each from CBSC and Gujarat Board. Supplementary course will be tutored this year only to ensure that those appearing in NEET 2017 don’t face any problem. Arrangements will made to give NEET related coaching through TV via Bhaskaracharya Institute For Space Applications and Geo-Informatics(BISAG).
The minister further said that the government has taken a decision to make JEE optional as common entrance test from 2017-18 for admissions in engineering and pharmacy courses post standard 12. The government also announced its decision to introduce GUJCET from 2017-18.
