Anandiben announces financial assistance for rain affected Valsad, Navsari

Gandhinagar: Chief Minister Anandiben Patel today reviewed the situation arisen owing to 2 days of heavy rains in the three South Gujarat districts and decided to immediately give Rs 1. 60 crore financial assistance for the two worst affected districts of Valsad and Navsari even as the met department has predicted more spell of heavy rains in South and some part of North Gujarat in next 48 hours.

Mrs. Patel, on his last day in the office, talked to collectors of Valsad, Navsari and Dangs over phone to take stock of the situation and status of the relief and rescue operations.

To prevent the spread of disease after receding of flood waters, She immediately decided to give Rs 40 lakh and Rs 20 lakh to Valsad and Navsari respectively for removal of mud and other kind of dirt spread owing to floods.On her instructions a team of Surat Municipal Corporation was working in Valsad with modern machinery.

The CM also decided go give Rs 25 lakh and Rs 15 lakh to Valsad and Navsari respectively as assistance to those whose houses were damaged owing to the rains and floods. Apart from this she has also given Rs 60 lakh as cash assistance to the two districts.

Meanwhile of the total 33 districts of Gujarat, 26 (125 talukas) experienced rain in last 24 hours taking the state monsoon average downpour to 38.83%. Maximum rain was 134 mm in Kaprada taluka of Valsad district which has seen 245 mm of average rains the day before. Subir Taluka in Dangs district saw 102 mm of rains while Surat, Navsari, Narmada and Tapi districts also saw moderate to heavy rains.

Nine people had died and hundreds evacuated to safer places owing to rain caused floods yesterday. Water has receded in many areas today.
