Dr. Navinchandra R Sheth appointed new Vice Chancellor of GTU

Gandhinagar: Dr Navinchandra Sheth has been appointed new Vice Chancellor of Ahmedabad based Gujarat Technological University(GTU). The appointment has been made by Chief Minister Vijay Rupani. Like Rupani, Dr. Sheth is also from Rajkot and has headed the Department of Biochemistry, Saurashtra University. The announcement on Dr. Sheth’s appointment was made today by the State government. Dr. Navinchandra Sheth is member of Gujarat Public Service Commission(GPSC) and also serves as Chairman of All India Council of Technical Education(AICTE). He is PhD and MPharm. He has been in education field for period as long as 37 years.

Prof. (Dr.) Navin Sheth, is a renowned educationist, scientist and administrator. In a carrier of more than 37 years, Prof. Sheth has established a reputation as a tireless academician, scientist and administrator.

Prof. (Dr.) Navin Sheth was born in Modasa of Aravalli district of Gujarat and had his early education at Modasa. He obtained B. Pharm, and M. Pharm degree in pharmacy from the oldest pharmacy college of India, L. M. College of Pharmacy, Ahmedabad affiliated to Gujarat University. He was awarded National Merit Scholarship for studies B. Pharm. He obtained Ph.D. degree from Saurashtra University, Rajkot. He served the government pharmacy college, Rajkot in different category for 28 years as Asst. Lecturer, Lecturer, Reader and Principal from 1979 to 2007. Then he joined as Professor and Head, Department of Pharmaceutical Science, Suarashtra University, Rajkot. He was the Dean, Faculty of Pharmacy, Chairman, Board of Pharmacognosy, Member of the Senate, Academic Council, etc. of Saurashtra University. A distinguished academician, strict disciplinarian and efficient administrator, he has been the Member of the Team of National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and NBA which assessed several colleges and Universities and served as Chairman and Member of Selection Committees of various Universities in India. He has been Advisor and Member GPSC and served either as a Chairman or a member of several UGC/AICTE/DST/GUJCOST Expert Committees. He is the Chairman, Board of Pharmacy education, AICTE.

Prof. Sheth has attended many National and International Conferences both in the country and abroad including China and USA.

As a research guide, Dr. Sheth produced 18 Ph.D’s and 21 M. Pharm. Scholars in various fields of pharmacy. At present, 8 research scholars are perusing their Ph.D. under his direct supervision.

He is a member of various association and professional bodies and also a life member of various professional bodies including Indian Society of Technical Education, Indian Pharmaceutical Association, Indian Society for Pharmacognosy, The Association of Pharmaceutical Teachers of India etc. Prof. Sheth is also a member of various National and International bodies that include All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) and Pharmacy Council of India (PCI).

Prof. Sheth was also actively engaged in teaching and research at Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences. His research interest include-Traditional drugs, herbal drugs and Standardization, herbal formulations etc. His exuberant involvement in R & D has been recognized by his 100+ publication amongst which 65 technical papers in renowned research journals, 18 in International Conferences, 37 in National Conferences.
