Ahmedabad: No new rickshaw will be registered without provision of digital meter in Ahmedabad.

Faced with lack of college education in mass and related unemployment, the city of Ahmedabad is witnessing growing number of rickshaws on roads. Rickshaw driving or becoming a road side hawker are two prominent options for most uneducated and unemployed youths in this city. Most rickshaw drivers install yankee flag meter in their rickshaws instead of digital meter which should be preferred for transparency.

Rickshaw operators had to go to city’s L.D. Engineering college to obtain certificate for flag meter, but now onward for digital meter they will have to give weight and measurement department certificate which may cost Rs 1,000 for annual passing. Four dealers are assigned the task on contract basis for issuing such certificate. The RTO has also recently implemented compulsory RTO track test for rickshaw license.
