1 MW Agriculture Solar Power project launched in South Gujarat

Surat: Minister for Agriculture and Power, Government of Gujarat Shri Chimanbhai Saparia today dedicated 1 MW agriculture solar power project in partnership with GIPCL at Vastan village of Mangrol taluka in Surat district of South Gujarat.

Rs 6 crore 1 MW project has been set up on 2.98 ha land with 3240 solar panels through which daily 4500-5000 unit power is generated.

The land used for this solar farm serves dual purpose. While solar panels generate power, the space below panels is used for cultivation of vegetables.

Solar power is connected directly to 11 KV feeder for reduction in T&D loss and lesser power transmission cost.

According to Saparia, this project which intends to showcase an example that power for rural needs can be generated in village itself will become an example elsewhere.

He said the government is going to launch a solar power oriented scheme under which 5 to 50 HP pilot solar power plants will be setup in agricultural farms in number of 20,000. Ten farmers can form a team and generate electricity for their village in farms, he said adding that such farmers may eventually even sell electricity to earn income. Saparia appreciated GIPCL for Rs 70 crore development works it has taken up in Mangrol taluka.

Saparia said the government offer a unit power for 60 paise when the cost is Rs 4.50 to 13 lakh agriculture power connections. The governemnt has purchased Rs 765 crore groundnut via 77 centers while 40 centers are approved for Tuver purchase on support price.
