Gujarat RTO introduces smart card style international driving permit
February 22, 2017
Gandhinagar: Gujarat government today said it has for the first time in the country launched smart card based international driving permit. The launching of this new service took place in capital Gandhinagar in presence of chief minister and transport minister among others. In a symbolic launch, 10 youths who are going to visit abroad were given smart card based international driving licenses.
It should be mentioned here that those from India visiting foreign land for tourism or short term stay are issued international license by local RTO in India, validity of which is one year or in matching with the visa period less than one year.
So far the international license issued by local RTO was in book format with hand written details. It was difficult to keep intact. New smart card will end this problem. There will be no credibility of authenticity related issue regarding new license in foreign land contrary to earlier one.
The government has kept international driving permit fee at Rs 500. There will be no additional charge involved for issuance of smart card license.
