March 26, 2017
Surat: Private air operator Spicejet today launched two flights on Surat-Delhi route at a function organized at Surat airport in presence of union minister of state for Civil Aviation Shri Jayant Sinha.
Spijcet had stopped its operations at Surat airport after infamous buffalo hit on runway in which its aircraft had suffered damages. After all corrections were made at Surat airport, Spicejet was requested to relaunch its operation. The citizens of Surat who have been running online and offline mass movement for further air connectivity to Gujarat’s second largest and world’s one of the fastest developing cities were overjoyed looking at water canon salute to Spicejet Aircraft at Surat airport today.
Speaking on this occasion, Spice Jet Chairman and Managing Director Ajay Singh said, “two years ago we stopped our operations here. Today we are launching two flights – one for morning and other for evening. Credit for today’s launching goes to people of Surat who keep pressurizing us for further air connectivity to this city. Minister Sinha told us that a city with 55 lakh population should have direct connection to Delhi and even many more connections. This is just beginning but in near future more connections will be availed to Surat possibly in present summer schedule itself.’
Singh said there’s great opportunity to start cargo operation at Surat airport as South Gujarat is hub. We are launching cargo operations today itself. We want to build a bonded warehouse here and we request for cooperation of minister for this.
Speaking here, Minister of State for Civil Aviation in Govt of India Jayant Sinha announced further air connectivity for Surat to Ranchi/Patna sector and international flights for Dubai with custom airport status. He said, “we have to expand the runway of Surat airport to make international flight operations possible here. We need to expand the terminal also for international flights. We are going to make Surat an international airport with flights to Sharjah and Dubai.”
