MCD results: Big victory for BJP, deep trouble for AAP

New Delhi: Trends and results available by noon clearly show that BJP is going to retain all three municipal corporation bodies in capital Delhi. BJP decision to field all new candidate in MCD elections has successfully neutralized anti-incumbency. It’s worth noting that BJP has been in power in all three bodies of MCD. There were large scale complains about corruption and miss governance. People of Delhi have put trust in popular prime minister Narendra Modi. People of Delhi have also rejected negative politics of Arvind Kejriwal and his Aam Admi Party(AAP). It should be noted here that 272 seats of MCD cover 68 of 70 seats of Delhi State. Arvind Kejriwal led AAP had won 67 of 70 seats in Delhi assembly polls held in 2015. AAP has recently lost assembly by-poll in Delhi very badly. Congress has regained some lost ground but not enough yet to ensure its victory. Meanwhile AAP’s antiques are continuing. The party is blaming electronic voting machines for its loss. However, like Congress, even in AAP there are two views about evm. AAP MP Bhagwant Mann has stated that questioning evm serves no purpose, the party should introspect. BJP’s victory meanwhile is seeming even bigger than 2012(last MCD polls). The party has stayed away from celebrating the victory to respect Sukma martyrs. Delhi state BJP president Manoj Tiwari has put up a banner outside the national BJP headquarters dedicating today’s victory to Sukma martyrs. Today’s results seriously put question on future of Arvind Kejriwal, his party and their style of politics. Today’s results clearly indicate that Kejriwal government has failed to meet expectation of voters who elected him to power just two years back.Congress leader Ajay Maken has meanwhile proposed to step down from his post after MCD defeat. Maken said for one year he will not take up any post in party and will work as party worker.

Delhi-MCD-Election-Result

More on the results:

-MCD was divided into North Delhi, South Delhi and East Delhi corporations in 2012. Delhi has three Mayors therefore.

– BJP had won North and East Delhi corporations in 2012, while in South Delhi it had to take support of independents and others.

– BJP had won 142 of 272 seats previously. This time its tally may go up.

– Today’s results cover 270 seats. 2 of 272 seats will witness polling next month due to death of candidates.

– Five nominations of BJP candidates were rejected ahead of polls. BJP had declared support to other candidates in these five wards of whom one was from BSP and other was from NCP.

– All five Muslim candidates of BJP have lost elections. Muslim votes that went to AAP in 2015 State election are transferred to Congress this time.

– MCD gets majority of funds from the State government which is ruled by AAP. The next State election in Delhi will be held in 2020. BJP ruled municipal corporations will continue to be in confrontation with AAP led state government for supply of enough funds.

– Most voters were concerned about cleanliness, roads and corruption. BJP led MCD will now need to provide Ahmedabad like door-to-door garbage collection facility, better cleanliness and transparent and corruption-free rule with constant attention to public grievances and their solutions.

– Arvind Kejriwal led AAP had in its manifesto announced house-tax(property tax)-free Delhi. Voters of Delhi have rejected this offer and elected BJP, as AAP has failed to keep promises it gave when elected to power in Delhi State.

– If today’s defeat of AAP in MCD actually translate into defeat of AAP type of politics, the country would greatly benefit from it. Gujarat witnessed worst kind of casteist movements on the model of AAP style of resistance. Because AAP was getting success through its antiques and cheap stunts, lot of people were out to follow that model.

– In 2013 assembly poll AAP got 26% votes.In 2014 Lok Sabha poll AAP got 34% votes.In 2015 AAP got 51%votes.In MCD 2017 AAP gets 25%.
