Gujarat govt announces 4% DA hike for over 8 lakh employees/pensioners worth 930 crore

Gandhinagar: Gujarat government which had approved the implementation of the recommendations of 7 th pay commission in the state with the retrospective effect of January 1, 2016 in August last year, today announced to increase the Dearness Allowance for over 8.20 lakh employees and pensioners by 4 four percent.
Deputy Chief Minister cum finance minister Nitin Patel today said ‘A total of 820764 employees and pensioners of the state would be benefited from it. In the first phase it would put a burden of 465 crore and in all 930 crore over the state exchequer,’ he said adding that the increased DA would be given with the salary and pension as arrears.
To a query about the proposed increase in the retirement age from 58 to 60 years he said that as the government was going for new recruitment, it would not increase the retirement age.
Notably the recommendation of 7 th pay commission has already put an additional annual burden in excess of Rs 8500 crore on the state exchequer.
