Kandla Port Trust to be renamed as Deen Dayal Port Trust Kandla

Kandla: Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi today in his address at Kandla – Gandhidham in Kutch suggested Shipping and Port ministers Nitin Gadkari that he and his department should rename Kandla Port Trust (KPT) as Deen Dayal Port Trust Kandla on the occasion of centenary year of Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya (September 2016 to September 2017). Shri Modi at the end of his speech made this suggestion and made all necessary procedure for this. Kdnala is India’s top major port. The Prime Minister predicted bright future of Kandla Port in connection with India’s pact with Iran to develop Chabahar port. Shri Modi in his address said Chabahar once developed will have direct connection to Kandla Port. It will translate into a position like Angad’s foot in global trade for Kandla Port. Prime Minister said Kandla will have investment of Rs 1,000 crore projects. PM said good ports are essential for country’s progress and Kandla is finest port in Asia. The Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for half a dozen projects worth Rs 993 crore related to development of Kandla port and said good ports are essential for India’s progress.Sound infrastructure and efficiency are vital pillars of economic growth, he said. If the country has to progress, it must have good ports, Modi said. The projects for which foundation was laid include a convention centre named after Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar.Other projects include two cargo berths, a road over bridge, deployment of two mobile harbour cranes and mechanisation of fertiliser handling facility at the port.
