After textile traders, Diamond industry in Surat to observe bandh to protest GST structure tomorrow

Surat: Close on heels of the bandh organized by textile traders here to protest against the tax structure in the Goods and Services (GST) tax regime, thousands associated with diamond cutting and polishing business in this city known as diamond city will also observe bandh tomorrow for similar reasons.
The diamond industry is opposed to the multi level taxation under the regime to be implemented from July 1.
The 5 percent slab for cutting and polishing business has especially angered the small and medium sized units here which employ thousands.
Surat Diamond Merchant’s Association has also announced its support to the bandh.
Yesterday around 175 textile markets and 75000 traders associated with it had observed bandh.
The life in this city revolves around textile and diamond businesses.
In another development a group of top diamond businessmen called on Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister of Gujarat Shri Nitin Patel along with Surat BJP MLA Harsh Sanghvi to make representation over GST issue.
