Gujarat govt gives in-principle approval to Rs 916 crore river Tapi conservation project

Gandhinagar: Gujarat government has given in-principle approval to Rs 941.76 crore project for pollution-free and clean river Tapi in Surat under the National River Conservation Programme.
The government note said Rs 408.24 crore will be spent in the first phase of this project, of which 70% will be contributed by the Government of India while the State government will contribute 20% and Surat Municipal Corporation will contribute 10%. A proposal for this project will not be sent to ministry of environment, Government of India.
Implementation of this project will result into better infrastructure and availability of quality water for irrigation and drinking purposes. It will also trigger better prospects for fisheries activities and reduced pollution.
