Water level of Sabarmati receding marginally in Ahmedabad since 6 pm

Ahmedabad:

The water level of Sabarmati in Ahmedabad has started receding marginally despite continuous inflow of flood water from Dharoi dam, the AMC control room said tonight.

The level had started increasing since the arrival of discharged water from Dharoi in North Gujarat at around 10am here today, but was receding after 6 pm.

According to official figures 68800 cusec water was released from Dharoi at 6 am today which reached Subhash bridge in the city at around 10 am. At 2 pm the release from Dharoi was 60803 and the water level in Sabarmati at Subhash bridge had gone up to 143.71 meter, almost one meter below the initial white level alert danger mark of 144.65 meters (though the actual red level danger mark was 148.96 m).

Consequently all the 25 gates of Vasna barrage here were freely opened and are remaining so even now.

The water level at 6 pm had risen up to 146.95 m but it started coming down after that and at 8 pm with discharge of 55411 cusec from Dharoi, the level had come down to 145.30 m.

Discharge of water from Vasna barrage at 8 pm was 110649 cusec.

An official of the AMC control room monitoring the situation said that the water was likely to recede further but it won’t come down drastically.

‘The over 5 foot of water on riverfront walkway was not likely to recede completely anytime soon,’ he said adding that depending on the inflow from Dharoi the water level would see many small rises and recedes.

Though it almost rained lightly or moderately all day long but the average rain in Ahmedabad today till 8 pm was only a little over an inch. The Mithakali underpass closed at 220 pm due to water logging was re-opened for traffic after five hours at 730 pm in the evening.
