Two more Congress MLAs resign, total five resignations in less than 24 hours

Gandhinagar: Two more Congress MLAs have resigned from the post of Member of Legislative Assembly(MLA). In less than last 24 hours the total number of Congress MLAs who have tendered their resignations is now 5. More resignations are also expected ahead of Rajya Sabha polls scheduled on August 8.

The latest two MLAs who resigned as MLA are Chhanabhai Chaudhary(Vansda in South Gujarat) and Mansinh Chauhan(Balashinor in Central Gujarat).

They are going to join BJP.

Mansinh Chauhan was Transport Minister when Shankersinh Vaghela was Chief Minister in late 1990s.

Yesterday Siddhpur MLA Balwantsinh Rajput who was Chief Whip of Gujarat Congress in assembly resigned from the post of Whip and also as MLA and joined BJP. Balwantsinh is now BJP candidate for Rajya Sabha polls. Balwantsinh is also father in law of granddaughter of former leader of opposition Shankersin Vaghela who left the party earlier this month. Vaghela too has issued a threat to resign as MLA.

Yesterday two Patidar MLAs Tejshreeben Patel(Viramgam) and Prahlad Patel(Vijapur) also tendered resignation as MLA. They later joined BJP and stated that Congress was not giving good positions to Patidar community.

Two more MLAs Raghavji Patel and Hakubha Jadeja have already declared that they are going to resign once they are asked to do so by BJP as per party’s strategy.

At this stage, the total number of MLAs in Gujarat assembly is 177 out of 182.
