Banas Dairy milk collection fallen up to over 60% during floods, again picking up:Chairman cum minister Shankar Chaudhary

Palanpur: The milk collection of Banaskantha District Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union Ltd., Palanpur popularly known as Banas Dairy, one of the 18 dairies under the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd (GCMMF), which owns brand Amul, is again picking up after seeing a fall of over 60% during the recent extremely heavy and floods.

Banas Dairy Chairman cum minister of state for health and family welfare Shankar Chaudhari, who was personally taking care of the flood rescue and relief for past many days, today said that the daily milk collection of the dairy was around 40 lakh liters before floods.

‘During floods it came down to as low as 15 lakh liters but now it is picking up and has become around 25 lakh liters,’ he said adding that the main reason behind the sudden steep drop was damage to various connecting roads across the district and death of over 6000 cattle.

He said that the government was doing all out to help the flood affected in the district and Banas Dairy which has a comprehensive data base of milk producing farmers would provide it to the government for ensuring proper compensation to affected ones.

Notably, Banas Dairy is one of the largest contributor to GCMMF which collects around 180 lakh liter of milk per day from from 18,549 village milk cooperative societies, 18 member unions covering 33 districts, and 3.6 million milk producer members across the state. Of this the Banas Dairy has its network in around 1200 villages of North Gujarat mainly Banaskantha and adjoining areas.
