Swine flu toll reaches 278, experts team to visit Gujarat

Gandhinagar: With nine more swine flu deaths in last 24 hours the toll owing to H1N1 infections in Gujarat has reached 278 even as the state government has taken some more measures to check the casualties and a experts team from center likely to visit Gujarat tomorrow to prepare an extensive report on the epidemic.

An official in the health department today said that a team consiting of 3 experts of virology was likely to visit Gujarat tomorrow. ‘It was likely to reach Ahmedabad tomorrow and then take a rounds of isolation wards and other areas to understand various aspects of the spread of the deadly flu. The team would prepare a detailed report about the reasons and additional steps to curb its spread,’ he said.

Meanwhile in the last 24 hours maximum 4 deaths have been reported from Ahmedabad while 3 from Rajkot.

Minister of state for health Shankar Chaudhary said that the government has ensured the availability of medicine for children also. ‘We have ensured that the medicine in syrup for for children was available adequately,’ he said adding that to contain and timely report the cases cross squads under taluka health officers have been constituted.

Chief Minister Vijay Rupani on the other hand repeated that the slogan of ‘any flu tamiflu (the most effective medicine of swine flu)’ should be made the basic theme to contain the disease. Talking to newsmen in Rajkot he said that the government was making an all out effort to contain the disease at the earliest.

Notably, over 2500 positive cases of the contagious disease have been reported in the state since January this year of which more than 1300 were reported in August only.
