Spell of moderate to heavy rain at isolated places across Gujarat likely to continue tomorrow: Met

Mahesh Shukla, Ahmedabad: A system over south Gujarat which has caused moderate to heavy rain at some places across Gujarat in last 24 hours is likely to cause more spells of heavy rain during next 36 hours, the met department forecast today said.

Under the influence of the morning upper air cyclonic circulation over south Gujarat and neighbourhood extending up to 5.8 km above sea level some places in Saurashtra, South Gujarat and Kutch have seen rains yesterday and today. Till 6 pm today 25 talukas mostly in Saurashtra-Kutch and South Gujarat have witnessed moderate rains with Umrala in Bhavnagar recording maximum of 47mm. Kaprada in Valsad and Subir in Dangs 34 mm each, Valod in Tapi 30 mm, Mandvi in Kutch 29, Bardoli in Surat 23 mm, Nizer in Tapi 27. There were more spells of heavy rains predicted during the night at isolated places in Gujarat region , Coastal Saurasthra and union territories of Daman and Diu and Dardra and Nagar Haveli. Tomorrow heavy rain has been forcast for isolated places in South Gujarat and adjoining Daman and Dadra and Nagar Haveli.

In the last 24 hours ending 7 am this morning 113 talukas of 26 distircts saw rain with Talala in Gir-Somnath district recording maximum 87 mm. Other prominent rain getters were Choryasi in Surat 71mm, Veraval in Gir Somnath 68 mm, Sutrapada in Gir Somnath 60 and Chhota Udepur also 60mm.

In the bulletin today likelihood of some thundershowers or light rain in Ahmedabad during the night today has also been mentioned.

Notably, Gujarat has so far recorded 109.37% of seasonal rain.
