Gujarat BJP makes nine suggestions to Election Commission
October 09, 2017
Gandhinagar: Chief Election Commissioner of India and top level team of Election Commission of India is in Gujarat on two-day visit to review preparedness for upcoming general elections of Gujarat Assembly, before making announcement of dates. Gujarat BJP has made nine suggestions for simplification of polling procedure and higher turnout.
– The Supreme Court verdict regarding Rs 2.5 lakh cash is pending. Whenever final rule is implemented, the problems faced by people should be considered and suitable amendment should be made.
– There should be specific parameters, rule and time period to return confiscated cash/things after legal procedure.
– There should be a single window system for various permissions instead of need to go to election official, RTO and police – three different departments.
– There’s need to make proper interpretation of provision under which polling agents can be appointed from other booths and not just a local booth.
– Present limit from polling station which is 200 meter should be changed to 100 meter due to development and urbanization.
– Polling time duration should be longer considering the fact that with introduction of VVPAT, casting each vote shall require more time.
– Need to conduct voters awareness campaign in connection with VVPAT.
– If party’s permanent office is located within 200 meter limit, proper decision should be taken in that regard.
– 6-10-14 December is wedding season, and therefore polling should take place post December 14 so that more and more citizens can take part.
