PM Modi hit out at Congress for making allegations against ECI, reminds of Rajyasabha poll

Vadodara :

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today hit out at Congress for making allegations against Election Commission with regard to announcement of elections in Gujarat reminding it about the role of the commission during the August 8 Rajyasabha election in the state in which party’s sole candidate and political secretary of Sonia Gandhi, Ahmed Patel had a narrow margin victory.

Addressing a function at Navlakhi ground here after inaugurating or laying foundation of various development works, PM Modi without taking any names said, ‘Earlier the total budget of Gujarat was around 8 to 10 thousand crores while he has inaugurated/laid foundation of development works of 3600 crores from just one single state here. Those who have never seen or thought of doing such things would naturally feel troubled.’

‘Many have problem that why Modi has come to Gujarat afer Diwali. As they are unable to say anything to me, they have started blaming the Election Commission. They are asking is Modi coming to Gujarat after taking permission from the commission. Those who had lost during the counting (of the Rajyasabha polls) and some of the TV channels had even started running the news about their defeat, but somehow won with a narrow margin during recounting, at least have no moral right to make allegations against the commission.’.
Notably. during the election Ahmed Patel managed to win with a narrow margin after rejection of two votes of dissident congress MLA’s Raghavji Patel and Bholabhai Gohil in a post-midnight decision by the commission. Congress had made complain against them which the commission had accepted.
Reminding of the poor state of things during Congress rule in Gujarat Modi said that when he had taken the rein of Gujarat only 15 to 20% houses had tap water facility which has now gone above 80%. Woman had to go miles to fetch water carrying it over their heads. His government was only concerned about development and was ready to help all the state governments who were on the path of development but won’t give even a single rupee to the one which was anti-development. He lamented the fact that despite passage of 70 years since independence 4 crore families were without electricity connection. He said that he had promised from the red fort to make electricity available in all the remaining 18000 villages in 1000 days of his government. 16000 have already been benefited even though the 1000 days are yet to be completed. He said that his government did not keep thinking like the earlier governments.
He said that his government has made gas connection available to crores of families. Development was possible only when the government was sensitive to the commoners and used every single rupee for good reason and it is monitored.

Modi said that his government was also committed to provide home to all by 2022. These houses would be as per local needs.

He also reiterated that the Congress governments at center had a anti-Gujarat attitude. He cited examples of Sardar patel, Morarji Desai and himself. He said that Gujarat could see development during non Congress government of Morarjibhai and Atal ji. If there would not have been non-Congress government of Atal Behari Vajpayee at the time of 2001 Gujarat earthquake, the state would not have come back to the track even after the passage of 15 years.
He urged the people of Gujarat to take full benefit of his government at center saying that earlier UPA government kept him waiting for years for putting the sluice gates on Narmada dam. But he gave its permission only after 14 days since the formation of his government at center. ‘Gujarat has so much to take from center as its due. The current state government under CM Rupani and Dy CM Nitin Patel was putting many good schemes before the center,’ he said.
PM Modi also made an appeal to the whole country to participate in the run for unity on October 31 the birth anniversary of Sardar Patel.
