Amitabh Bachchan, the stalwart of Indian cinema the other day very aptly compared Dhirubhai’s life with that of Srimad Bhagwad Gita. “Why we read Gita again and again? Because whenever we read Gita, every time we get a new message, a new idea and a new preaching. Dhirubhai’s life is not less than preaching of Gita,” he said. He also described how he got inspired by Dhirubhai’s support and backing when he was almost debt ridden and jobless. During that time, Dhirubhai’s words pumped life into his career and status. This is what Dhirubhai Ambani did throughout his life to provide life support to millions of people. Founder Chairman of Reliance Group Shri Dhirajlal Hirachand Ambani, popularly known as Dhirubhai, has been a timeless legend.
Chorwad, a coastal village turned town in proximity of Junagadh & Somnath, was once a tourist place because of its scenic coast-line and dense coconut trees. Eventually, it came to lime light as the name and fame of Dhirubhai Ambani, founder chairman of Reliance grew nationally and internationally. Dhirubhai and Kokilaben held Chorwad closed to their heart as they spent their early days in Chorwad prior to going to Aden (Now Yemen). It is obvious, therefore that, Reliance Industries Ltd. (RIL) and Dhirubhai Ambani Foundation have always been on forefront when it comes to development of Chorwad, native of Dhirubhai Ambani.
Located on Veraval – Porbandar high way, Dhirubhai Ambani Memorial House is created in fond memory of Dhirubhai Ambani. It was a place earlier known as ‘Mangarolvalo Delo’, where Dhirubhai spent his young days. His father, a primary teacher, had taken on rent a tiny portion of this large traditional dwelling place. The property was purchased in 2002 by Ambani family. The giant size doors and a window entrance, elevation of the large building etc. is kept unchanged.
The portion where Dhirubhai stayed is replicated as it was in his time with typical brass-copper utensils, house hold utility items, wooden furniture etc. Dhirubhai Ambani Memorial is the latest tourist attraction to the visitors of Gir, Junagadh, Somnath, Diu, Porbandar etc. On an average per month 5,000 people visit the memorial house and get inspire from the life of Dhirubhai. It remains open for public between 9.30 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Tuesday to Sunday for public. It is closed on Monday.
Dhirubhai Ambani laid foundation of his empire Reliance with a meager Rs1,000 before 40 years has not grown. Now, Reliance Industries Ltd has grown to become a company with market capitalization of more than Rs6 lakh crore, comparable to any multinational company and if Shri Mukesh D. Ambani gives full credit for this growth to his source of inspiration Dhirubhai Ambani, it is not out of context. We keep on remembering him time and again; as we refer and recite to Bhagwad Gita.
