Torrent emerges as biggest winner under the e-Reverse Auction for wind projects held by SECI

Torrent Power Limited participated in the competitive bidding and the e-Reverse Auction process held yesterday by Solar Energy Corporation of India Ltd (SECI) (Tranche – III) for setting up of 2000 MW ISTS (Inter State Transmission System) connected wind power projects and emerged as a big winner in the auction by winning the highest quantum of 499.80 MW amongst all bidders.

It is also the largest capacity ever won by any bidder in the wind auctions conducted so far in the country. The Project has a schedule of commissioning within 18 Months from the effective date of the PPA, as specified by SECI, Executive Director of the company Jayesh Desai today said.

Torrent forayed into the renewable energy space with a ~50 MW wind power plant in the year 2012. As part of its journey into this environmentally benign and sustainable energy space, Torrent has till date implemented various wind and solar power projects aggregating to around 436 MW . Besides these operational projects, around 185 MW renewable power projects are under advanced stage of execution.

With this win at SECI – III, the aggregate capacity of operational as well as under construction/under development renewable power projects of Torrent has crossed 1,100 MW mark and its total operational and under construction/development generation capacity has crossed 4,272 MW. Torrent plans to continue its focus on development of renewable energy projects.
