Tanker Ship used by ISIS seized from Alang ship-breaking yard in Gujarat

Bhavnagar:

An incident of a scrapped tanker ship used earlier by terror outfit ISIS for Oil and gas transportation arriving in Alang ship-breaking yard of Bhavnagar district Gujarat has come to fore.

The Ship from Tanzania M T Capricorn was banned by the United Nations for its use by ISIS for oil transportation from Libiya. The UN had put restrictions on oil and gas business with the terror outfits who had taken hold of that in Libiya.

It reportedly arrived in Alang ship-breaking yard in February this year.

The owner of KPG enterprises which had bought the ship and put it on plot 91 of the ship breaking yard for dismantling claimed that he had taken the ship when the UN restrictions on the ship were lifted.

It is learnt that restrictions were lifted from the ship in July 2017 to be reimposed on February 2, 2018.

On the information of the UN authorities, the ship has been seized by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) which was not investigating the matter.

Nothing objectionable has reportedly been recovered from the tanker ship of capacity over 1150 MT.

Meanwhile, PSI of Alang Marine Police Taslim S Rizvi today confirmed that the tanker ship has been seized by the DRI.

‘The DRI seized the tanker ship on March 20. It was seized on the objection by the UN,’ Rizvi said without divulging any other detail of the matter.

Notably, the ship before UN objection had undergone the procedure of custom check and the same by the Gujarat Pollution Control Board successfully.
