Gandhinagar:

– Bhuj court has given one year jail to IPS Manoj Ninama after convicting him for brutal torture to Muhammat Sama in connection with a disputed land case. Ninama has been slapped with Rs 1,000 fine. He has also been ordered to pay Rs 10,000 compensation to victim Sama.

– Fast agitation by locals seeking national status to Karansad town ended today in presence of State BJP chief Jitubhai Vaghani. Karamsad is native town of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the iron man of India and country’s first home minister/deputy prime minister. Locals are seeking special status and linking fund for Karamsad town from the Centre for this reason. Karamsad had observed total strike yesterday in support of the demand.

– Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani will attend the meeting called by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi for preparations of 150th anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi today evening. The Chief Minister reached Prime Minister’s house in the afternoon.

-Fire broke out in Wagon R car apparently due to short circuit on Himmatnagar – Derol Patiya road. The driver was killed in this incident as he couldn’t come out of car possibly due to central locking system which may have gone unsteady due to fire.

– City police commissioner of Rajkot, Anupamsinh Gehlot has in an order asked the owners of horses and donkeys to approach the nearest veterinary facility for check up of such animals and obtain health certificate. The decision has been taken after bacterial disease glander has been found in Bhagvatipara area of Rajkot. There’s no vaccine of this disease and the animal suffering from it needs to be killed and buried. This disease can also spread to humans. City police commissioner has in also asked the owners to clean the area where such animals are kept. Weak horses and donkeys are not allowed to take into public places.

– Former IAS and RTI (Right to Information) commissioner HV Patel has resigned from his post for appointment of his junior officer Dilip Thakor as Chief Information Commissioner. Second RTI commissioner RR Varsani may also offer his resignation for same reason.

-Police lobbed ten tear gas shells to control the mob of Maheshwari samaj at Gandhidham in Kutch district last evening. The youths of Maheshwari community were upset with a Facebook post which they claimed was against their God Dhani Matangdev. Maheshwaris are part of Dalit segment of society. Police vehicles were damaged by mob and at least half a dozen police men suffered minor injuries while trying to control the angry mob which had blocked the highway by putting burning tyres. The situation was brought to control. Later on Wednesday(today) the Dalits blocked traffic by occupying roads in district headquarters Bhuj near Jubilee circle.

– After lot of hiccups in the past, construction of cable bridge over river Tapi is going on in speedily. Out of total 10, the 9th cable is now been erected on the bridge.

– The court in Mumbai delivering the verdict in journalist J Dey murder case convicted Chhota Rajan while acquitting the other accused Jigna Vora and Joseph Paulsen.
