Gujarat govt invites tenders for construction of Bhadbhut barrage

Bharuch: Finally, the tender process for construction of ambitious Bhadbhut barrage project in Bharuch district of Central Gujarat has began. The target to complete the project is three years.

Narmada, Water Resources, Water Supply & Kalpsar department of Gujarat government has invited tenders from contractors for phase-1 development progarmme with estimated cost of Rs 2376.28 crore. Proposed works are listed below:

– construction of 1.637 km long Bhadbhut barrage comprising river diversion work

– construction of two 3-lane and two 2-lane bridges over barrage piers including approaches(flank walls) and approach roads

– Hydero-mechanical and electro-mechanical works for 90 numbers fo 15.50 m(w) x 10.50 M.(H) fixed wheel type vertical lift gates, rope drum type hoists and moving gantries with trestles for U/S and D/S stoplogs

– Barrage instrumentation

– Navigagion channels with navigation locks for fishermen’s boats, fish passage

– Adequate drainage arrangements on both the banks of Narmada river

– Power evacuation and distribution upto 33 kg/22 kv/11 kv

Rs 4300 crore barrage will have 90 gates in length of 1663 meters. The reservoir will have capacity to store 599 million cubic meter water. The barrage will have six lane road connecting Dahej, Hansot and Olpad to Surat. Saline sea water will not mix with river Narmada water with construction of this barrage. The project will also avail riverfront and other places of tourism interests. The project was delayed due to challenge of environmental clearance and fishermen protests.
