5 students including ABVP cadres arrested by Kutch Police for blackening face of professor

Bhuj: Police arrested five cadres of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad(ABVP) for blackening face of 52-year old professor using harmful chemical and parade him through the university over senate election voters list.

Chemistry department head Dr. Girin Anilkant Bakshi was attacked by a group of ABVP cadres in Kutch University. His face was blackened at around noon yesterday. He was taken to university vice chancellor’s office forcibly. Professor Bakshi later filed complaint against Ram Gadhvi and Bhargav Shah and a group of ABVP cadres in size of 15-20 under sections 326(A), 332 and186. Section 326 A in the Indian Penal Code lays down the punishment for acid throwing.

Professor Bakshi was taken to hospital due to burning sensation caused by chemical. Sample of this black chemical was sent to forensic science laboratory.

Vice Chancellor Dr. CB Jadeja said, the university will be in role of complainant in this case. The behavior of students was unacceptable.

The university called a meeting of executive council in which unanimous decision was taken to terminate the ABVP workers involved in this condemnable act. Professors and staff of Kuch University rushed to District Superintendent of Police(DSP) office and demanded strict actions agaist the accused. They pointed out that Dr. Bakshi was teaching in class when he was attacked and his face was blackened.

This is not stand alone incident in which students and others creating trouble in educational institution. Just last week, Congress MLA Alpesh Thakor and Congress backed Hardik Patel spoke to teachers in abusive language in a school in Ahmedabad.

In fresh incident today, Congress party’s student wing National Students Union of India(NSUI) cadres created ruckus in Ahmedabad’s CS Sameria college.
