Congress leader Kunvarji Bavalia resigns as MLA, also quits Congress party

Gandhinagar: Congress MLA from Jasdan seat and Koli community leader Kunvarji Bavaliya who is also former Lok Sabha MP today handed over his resignation to assembly Speaker Rajendra Trivedi at Speaker’s residence in Gandhinagar today morning. Bavaliya called on the Chief Minister and held meeting with him. Kuvarji has also mailed his resignation from Congress party to Congress chief Rahul Gandhi.

State party chief Jitubhai Vaghani in a press conference said, Chief Minister Vijay Rupani had taken a decision to induct Kunvarji Bavaliya in ministry. Bavaliya will take oath at Raj Bhavan in Gandhinagar at 4.00 pm.

As Bavalia has resigned from the post of MLA, he will need to get elected within six months to continue as minister. In that case he would probably contest from his stronghold Jasdan on BJP ticket.

Bavalia arrived at State BJP headquarters and held meeting with senior BJP leaders and ministers including Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel. He was later offered saffron scarf by state BJP chief in presence of Nitin Patel, RC Faldu, Bhupendrasinh Chudasama, Saurabh Patel and others. It’s worth noting that ministers like Bhupendrasinh and Saurabh largely rely on Koli votes to win the election.

Bavalia said he was upset with casteist (Jaativadi) politics Congress president Rahul Gandhi.

State BJP chief Jitu Vaghani said Kunvarjibhai was four-term MLA, two-time working president of State Congress, all India president of Koli community organization, OBC leader. Vaghani said this was start of BJP’s victory over all 26 Lok Sabha seats in Gujarat in upcoming Lok Sabha general elections next year.

Kunvarji was sulking for last some time. Kunvarji was upset with party during Congress-led UPA government years as he was not given cabinet berth. He was later upset with the party for not considering his name as state party chief. He was upset with party for series of neglect he faced during important decisions, including the decisions pertaining to organisational appointments in his district. He had recently publicly said that party was sidelining its senior leaders.

Bharat Boghra, a BJP man from Jasdan who was once assisting Bavalia in his reaction said, Jasdan was for long time electing opposition party MLA due to which development of the area could not be achieved. It is good that Kuvarjibhai is now in ruling party fold. This will avail opportunity to Jasdan for its development.
