20 injured as tent collapsed in PM’s rally in Bengal; PM send his doctor, SPG, personal staff for help, personally visits hospital

New Delhi: A portion of the tent in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rally in Midnapore in West Bengal collapsed today afternoon in the middle of his speech. PM saw this and instantly instructed the SPG personnel standing behind him to look after the people and attend to any injured. In a jiffy, not only the local party unit, but PM’s personal staff, ranging from his doctor to SPC personnel instantly started helping out the people.
The PM later visited Midnapore medical college and hospital to meet the injured . PM consoled the injured at a hospital in West Midnapore.
An injured lady asked for Modi’s autograph while hardly being able to speak. PM happily obliged.
The crowd outside was so big that even Bengal MP SS Ahluwalia had to abandon his car and take a ride on a motorcycle for 8 km.
During his speech, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was heard urging the crowd: “Those who have climbed up, please get down, all of you….please climb down. Those standing up there, please get down. Don’t run.”
Midnapore has been receiving heavy rain since morning and it was drizzling at the time the canopy collapsed. The structure weakened further when people tried to climb the supporting poles for a glimpse of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
During his speech, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was heard urging the crowd: “Those who have climbed up, please get down, all of you….please climb down. Those standing up there, please get down. Don’t run.”
