Ahmedabad: Illegally constructed portion of dismissed IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt’s bungalow near Drive In road here will be demolished finally. The Supreme Court has denied any relief to Bhatt in this case.

Bhatt lives in Sushilnagar based bungalow on Drive In road. In year 2011, his neighbour Pravin Patel had filed plea in the High Court claiming that Bhatt had started two-storey construction over common boundary wall. The court had in year 2012 asked the Amdavad Municipal Corporation to take action following which a notice was issued to Bhatt asking him that illegal construction should be removed in three-day period or it will be demolished. However, AMC had not take any action beyond issuance of notice, following which, Bhatt continued construction activity and made kitchen, sitting room and servant quarter.

Bhatt’s neighbour Pravinbhai filed plea again in 2018 in the High Court and sought removal of illegal construction. On July 12th the AMC told the High Court that illegal construction will be removed in seven-day period. The AMC team reached Bhatt’s house within an hour to execute the High Court order. However Bhatt reportedly approached Supreme Court lawyer Harin Rawal and managed to get stay through oral representation before the court headed by Justice Gogoi.

Bhatt from his side claimed that he had purchased this bungalow in year 1997. During repair work of compound wall he found that there was some construction over the wall even in the past but it was demolished later. Bhatt argued that he was constructing something which was already there in the past and therefore he didn’t find it necessary to take permission for new construction.
