Kankariya zoo gets 6 leopards from Lion-Tiger Reserve of Karnataka

The AMC run Kankariya zoo here has received six new leopards from Tyavarekoppa Lion and Tiger Reserve in Shimoga of Karnataka taking the total number of such big-cats in the zoo to 9.
Dy Municipal Commissioner (zoo) Kuldip Arya in a statement said today.
Three of the leopards brought from Shimoga as per the the norms laid down by the central zoo authority are male and as many are female. Named Pravin, Pradip and Sandeep (all male) and Kalpana, Tunga and Bansankari (all female) were all aged between 3 to 5 years. Earlier 3 leopards one male Shani and two female Jaya and Mili were living in the zoo.
With this the total number of leopards in the zoo has gone up to 9. It houses a total of over 1800 animals including 3 lions and as many tigers and 2 Himalayan bears.
