Justice Anant S Dave appointed as acting chief justice of Gujarat High Court

Ahmedabad: Justice Anand S Dave has been appointed as acting chief justice of Gujarat High Court following elevation of present chief justice R Subhash Reddy’s elevation to the Supreme Court by collegium. Justice Reddy will take oath as Supreme Court Judge tomorrow. His farewell was organized late in the afternoon today. As the senior most judge of the Gujarat High Court Justice Akil Hamid Kureshi has been transferred to Bombay High Court by Supreme Court collegium, the next senior most judge Anant Dave has succeeded R Subhash Reddy as acting chief justice.

Profile:

Born on 5th December, 1957 in a tribal village in Panchmahal District. Mr. Dave took his primary and secondary education in a tribal village. He stood First Class in S.S.C. Examination and completed graduation in Commerce faculty with Law in First Division and was awarded with coveted M.S. Pandit Gold Medal in Jurisprudence. Having taken LL.B. degree, he enrolled as an Advocate with Bar Council of Gujarat on 30.12.1984.

By his brilliant and uncanny skill, he carved out a niche as a successful lawyer, and represented Union Government in Gujarat High Court as a Standing Counsel for Central Government, State Government in capacity of Additional Government Pleader and Solicitor in Gujarat High Court, Legal Advisor for Consumer Education and Research Centre in 1985-86, Sardar Sarovar Nigam Ltd, B.S.N.L., G.E. Board, G.S.I.C. and Panel of Gujarat High Court Legal Aid Services. He appeared as a successful Counsel in various Tribunals; Narcotic Control Bureau; Customs and Excise matters.

His services were appreciated as Joint Secretary, Secretary and Vice-President of Gujarat High Court Bar Association from 1990 onwards. Systematic administration and persuasive habits stood him in good stead.

Elevated as Additional Judge of Gujarat High Court on 8th October, 2004 and confirmed as permanent Judge on 25.09.2006.
