Palanpur: Charge sheet was filed against then Banaskantha SP Sanjiv Bhatt and then PI IB Vyas in Palanpur court by CID Crime in year 1996 opium planting case.Sumersinh Rajpurohit, a practicing lawyer at Pali in Rajasthan. He had taken an office on rent in Pali. The property in which his office was located was in dispute. A court case was going on to vacate the property. The property was belonging to former Judge of Gujarat High Court RR jain’s sister’s in-laws family. Sanjiv Bhatt was asked to see that property is vacated. In this connection, a bogus case of opium was fabricated and filed against Sumersinh. A police team led by PI Vyas had reached Pali in jeep with fake number plate without informing local police. Sumersinh was picked up from his house in the night. Sumersinh’s wife had dialed local police control room. Lawyers in Pali had gathered and created ruckus at police station in Pali, after which Vyas led Gujarat police team was intercepted and a note was made in Pali police station that Sumersinh was being brought to Palanpur in connection with a complaint filed there. Gujarat police’s number plate mentioned in that note was fake. Following an order by Gujarat High Court in this case, State CID Crime had started probe after a gap of 22 years and arrested Sanjiv Bhatt and Vyas this year.
