Gujarat govt. declares Rs 1300 crore special package for 45 talukas that received 250-400 ml rain in monsoon

Gandhinagar: Gujarat government today declared special package for farmers in 45 more talukas that are scarcity-affected. Each of these talukas had received rainfall below 400 ml but above 250 ml during monsoon this year. Earlier the government had declared all talukas that received less than 250 ml rainfall as scarcity-hit.
The talukas included for special package are; Kadi, Daskroi, Morbi, Mansa, Jetpur, Bhanvad, Mahesana, Palanpur, Padra, Dholka, Bechraji, Upleta, Dhari, Jasdan, Sanand, Vadnagar, Dantiwada, Gandhinagar, Chuda, Lathi, Amirgadh, Wadhvan, Tankara, Sidhdhpur, Babra, Dhoraji, Lalpur, Umrala, Amod, Kalol(Gandhinagar), Gondal, Botad, Ranpur, Dholera, Vijapur, Vadgam, Sihor, Chotila, Bavla, Valbhipur, Shinor, Gadhda, Virpur, Kotda sangani, Dhandhuka.
Each khatedar farmer in 14 talukas that received 250 – 300 ml rainfall will be suitable for lump sum assistance of Rs 6,300 per hectare as special package by the State government. Similary 12 talukas that received 300-350 ml rain will attract lump sum assistance of Rs 5,800 per hectare. 19 talukas in 350-400 ml rainfall will attract Rs 5,300 lump sum assistance per hectare.
Farmers will need to apply for benefit under this special package.
According to deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel, primary estimate suggests the government will pay Rs 28-30 crore assistance in each of 45 talukas under this package. The government will spend around Rs 1300 crore on this, he added.
‘Earlier 51 talukas were declared scarcity-hit for which assistance of more than Rs 5100 crore was approved,’ Nitin Patel said.
Nitin said the government will spend around Rs 6,500 crore for 96 talukas including 51 scarcity-hit talukas and 45 more talukas that are covered under special package today.
Khatedar farmer will be given assistance for upto 2 hectare land irrespective of fact whether a farmer has received rain in his farm or he has irrigation facility or not or his crop is successful or failed.
Nitin Patel said, the government is also spending for other expenses such as extra two hours of power supply, fodder supply and more.
